Sonic The Hedgehog 4

Sonic returns in a new 2D adventure coming this Summer.

Sega has officially announced Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1. Sonic 4 will return the speedy blue hedgehog to his 2D roots. Employing the popular 3D graphics on a 2D playing field, the game is to be a direct follow-up to the Sega Genesis Sonic & Knuckles. As the title implies, the game will be episodic, but the length of each episode is currently unknown.

The game is coming this summer as a downloadable game for the Xbox 360, PlaySation 3 and Wii. The game will run in full 1080p for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, and will run at 480p on the Wii. The Wii version will feature special motion control section and PlayStation 3 version will feature Sixaxis control sections. Check out the teaser trailer below courtesy of Gamespot.

Awesome! I have fond memories of playing Sonic 2 and renting the other games in the series. The last modern Sonic game I played was the revamp for Dreamcast, which I thought was neat. However I didn’t bother with much afterwards.

Definitely cool that Sega is going back to Sonic’s 2d roots!

the only way this could get any better is if they announce that the guys behind the DS Sonic games were working on it….
